port 81

This port 81 is used by some 'alternative' webservers like light-http,nginx,etc.
Since it is very close to http port in case of default http server (IIS,apache) is installed
on computer, this 81 port is used by these lightweight webservers.
You can check if this port is open by porttester , specify remote computer and 81
as a port.
If porttester will return 'Port available' most likely this port is used by some webservice.
Open task manager and try to look after processes like lighttpd.exe or nginx.exe,
shutdown this process and recheck the port, if porttester will return Port is not available
that means this port was using by this webservers.

port tester windows

I was looking for simple application application that allows to
check port open on remote or local server or see if port is blocked.

I was trying to check port using telnet,
but telnet is old not very convenient command-line tool -
is currently removed from windows7.

Also there are websites for online port test .
They can test only your outside firewall and I was afraid to share information
about my network infrastructure and open ports on internet.

All existed tools like nmap or nc rise bells on corporate antivirus and firewalls.

So I created this simple port testing application.

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

If this message returned by port tester that means server is found but connection to the specific port is closed.
The possible reason is that service that you are trying to verify on that specific port is not running
or running on another port, try to check service status or verify service configuration files.

check if server port is open

1.Download port tester application from this site (download button on the left) .
2.Application has two text-boxes on the top : one for server name or ip another for port.
3.Enter server name and port and click on [Test] button to test specific port on this server.
4.Application will return "Port available" if port is open on this server or will return
connection errors if port or server is unavailable such as "server not found" or "server unavailable".

rdp port windows 7

windows is using port 3389 for rdp protocol activity.
In order to enable incoming rdp requests you have to configure your router to allow connections on port 3389.
Also you can check if port is accessible by porttester by specifying server name and port 3389.

verify port 443 is open

you can verify it easily like on screenshot below ,
google.com can be replaced with other remote server if you want to test particular server.

port 113

this is "Authentication Server Protocol" port.
Usually service is running on routers and *nix servers and it returns a character string which identifies the owner
of that connection on the server's system.

This port is closed on windows machine in default configuration.
Also port 113 is used by applications those connecting to IRC servers

check dns port

dns port is port number 53.
To check this port on server download porttester and specify dns server and 53 as port ,
click "Test" button, if port-tester will return "Port available" that means you can
connected to this dns server.

check if msn blocked

1.Download ( click on download button on the right )
2.Run application and try to connect to following server / port
messenger.hotmail.com 1863 or gateway.messenger.hotmail.com 80

3.If portester returns "port available" that means that you can connect by msn messanger.

check remote port if it's open

When I was working on development and integration b2b solution I haven't found simple tool that capable to
check remote port and simple display if port available.
So I created this Port Tester application , now it's available for download from this site.

check if ftp port is open

ftp is using port 21 to check if ftp port is open inside your network try to connect to
public ftp servers like ftp.mozilla.org and port 21 like on screenshot below.

ldap port test

LDAP is using 636 port.To verify ldap connection availability with porttester.
Specify name of the ldap server and 636 as port and click on test.

facebook chat port

to verify if facebook chat is open/avaible from your network with porttester
specify chat.facebook.com as server and 5222 as port.
Application will make attempt to connect to server and will display "Port Available" if connection is possible.
Also you can use Pidgin to connect to facebook chat.

verify if port is open

to see if port is open from inside network it's required to have outside server with port available.
For example if i want to check if port 80 is open
I can use porttest and set google.com as server name and 80 as port.

see if port is in use

PortTest application the easies way to see if port is in use for local computer or remote computer.
If you are testing local computer type localhost or 127.0.0.1 in computer text field.

Port 88

Port 88 belongs to Kerberos protocol -
this is strong authentication protocol dsigned on secret key technology.
Used for client/server authentication.
Normally this port is closed on windows machine, however some commercial
applications using this protocol.

If you have this port open that means most likely you have Kerberos
server installed on your computer.

port 123

port 123 is for Time Protocol and used for time synchronisation between server and workstations and applications.
Available on Linux, BSD, Mac OS X, Solaris and AIX and from Windows Server 2003 available on windows servers.

port 69 normally should be closed on windows.

It is used sometimes by viruses and certain programs to sneak in.
To check if this port is open on your machine , download portester by clicking on donwload button
on the left , enter localhost and 69 and click Test.
Application should return "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.", that means port is closed.

port 68

Port 68 is port for BOOTP protocol.
This port should be normally closed on windows machine.
You can check if this sport open by using porttester and
specifying localhost as computername and 68 as port.

Port tester should return Port Not Available otherwise you have
to check computer with antivirus software , becase some backdoors may use this port.

port 7 is an "Echo" port - sending back whatever it receive.
This port is normally closed on windows machine , but can be open on unix machines.

port 139

port 139 is 100% Windows machine's port and dedicated for "File and Printer Sharing" on a Windows machines.
This port is normally open on windows machine but should be open only in local network and
closed/bloked by firewall for outside connection.
